I have always been a big fan of the comic strip “Frank and Ernest”

I cut this out of the paper about 20+ years ago and still have it.

It may be one of my all time favorite comic strips.

Frank and Ernest

The Four Pigmen of the Apocalypse

I may have posted this one before …

“The Infamous Cartoon Posse”

I got in to the business of cartooning through drawing caricatures. Sometime in 1990 I met a three caricature artists that performed in and around the San Antonio area. One was a professional artist and illustrator that went by the name of “Doc Haliday”.

The other is Mel, a freelance artist who is still one of the most active and prolific caricature artist in San Antonio and if your lucky you can catch him at the San Antonio Rodeo in February or on any given weekend in “El Mercado”.

The third one operated and ran a group of caricature artist that was known around town as “The Infamous Cartoon Posse” and he was known by many as “Kidd Cardona”. Kidd received the honor of being named as the “Official Cowboy Caricature Artist of Texas”.

I have not seen Kidd in many years and not sure of his whereabouts, but as I was stumbling through some old cartoon artifacts I ran across this photo of Kidd.

I think it is important to sometimes stop and remember those that had an influence on your career as all three of the did on mine.

Took time to have a LONE STAR BEER and to capture a gratuitous “selfie” along the way.

So … I was going through an old storage room today at my Mom’s house where I have had some things stored for 12-15 years …

I find an old book called “Sporting Etchings – by: Robert A. Lasell Ripley” … a nice art book

I probably bought this book at a garage sale at least 15 years ago and had never opened it … so I grab this book and about 7 or 8 others and bring them home with me …

So I’m sitting around tonight and pick up the book an open it … inside the book is a “Gene Autry – Dell Comic Book” most likely from the 50’s or early 60’s …

Pretty cool I thought ….
